August 2016 tour postponed to 2nd half of 2017 - Updates to follow

Aviation Adventure South Africa 2017

August / September 2017

Time for the third edition of the South African Fun Flights Tour. This year our six day tour is inspired by Flying Safaris with focus on flying and a little less on luxury safari.

After the last two year's successful tours we are aiming high taking the majestic Douglas DC-4 Skymaster on a flight from Johannesburg to Maun in Botswana and back. More than 5 hours DC-4 flying will give everyone the chance for a visit up front, and enjoy the atmosphere of old school travel. Possibly the last chance of a longer DC-4 flight ever.

Maun is situated on the southern edge of the Okavango Delta, an area well known for abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery. There will be the possibility for an optional light plane scenic flight above the Delta. Wildlife, especially elephants and other large mammals, can usually easily be spotted from the air.

Further to the old prop theme we will fly two DC-3 Dakotas to Skukuza in the Kruger National Park, where we will stay the night before returning to civilization again the next day. During the stay we will enjoy an evening and morning game drive, hoping to find lions amongst others. You will be able to experience both Dakotas by flying one way, around one and a half hours, on each of them. Accommodation will be basic, but with air-conditioning and hot water.

Back in Johannesburg there will be a number of optional short and scenic flights. We will fly a Beech 18, Harvards and helicopters. Also working on options for a Casa 352L (Ju-52), Piaggio P166, T-28 Trojan and maybe our first jet.

Last but not least there is an optional day with the possibility of flying a few bizjets out of Lanseria. Two combinations are planed with a Hawker-Siddeley 125-400 and Learjet 35 combo or a Citation I and Turbo Commander combo.

Extend your stay with your own plans

August/September is a great time to visit South Africa. Being well into the dry season it is prime wildlife spotting due to the concentration of animals near water sources and less dense vegetation.

On the Northwest coast the wildflowers will start to show themselves as colourful blankets on the landscapes. In the south the whales will be cruising along the shores and Cape Town is of course always worth a visit.
